What is ‘faces the Tide’?

The sea shapes everything around it—including the people who call Whitstable’s coast home. Faces The Tide is a photographic portrait series capturing the lives behind beach house doors. It’s about the stories, faces, and homes that define coastal living.

Each portrait will be taken in the subject’s home, blending landscape and identity to show the deep connection between people and place. The series will culminate in a public exhibition, celebrating the hidden lives of coastal communities.

Once you sign up, I’ll reach out to introduce myself and answer any questions you have. If you’re happy to take part, we’ll schedule a time for your portrait session.

A Relaxed Portrait Session

The session will take place in your home and will be completely informal—no stiff poses, just natural and authentic photography. You can be in your favourite part of the house, indoors or out, whatever feels right to you.

If you’d like, you can share a little about what your home and the sea mean to you. These personal connections add depth to the series and will help shape the final exhibition.

After the shoot, you’ll receive a high-quality digital copy of your portrait to keep and share.

Be Part of the Exhibition

Selected portraits will be displayed in a public exhibition celebrating the people and places that define coastal life. You’ll be invited to the final showcase to see the project come to life.
